WTA Rankings: significant improvement in singles

24/08/2015 – The latest WTA Rankings shows, that there is a visible sign of the three great victory at the 2 701 240 USD WTA event in Cincinnati.

The field was so strong at the Western & Southern Open, so the 22-year old Hungarian player started in the qualifying event. In the opening round she defeated the 17th seed Heather Watson, then won against Aliaksandra Sasnovich. So Timi reached the main draw!

And came the biggest victory! Timi fought hard and bravely and she won in three sets against the 2011 US Open Champion, Samantha Stosur! In the second round the 7th seed Karolina Pliskova defeated the Hungarian youngster, in two close set.

Thanks to the three victory, Timi jumped to the 73rd position, she improved 10 places. In the WTA Race she moved from the 91st place to the 73rd position.

The Hungarian player was a quarter-finalist in Doubles with Kristina Mladenovic, so they couldn’t repeat last year’s success. In 2014 they lost only in the final in Cincinnati. So Timi moved back one place in the WTA Rankings.

But, in the 2015 Race Timi and Mladenovic remained in the 4th place, their advantage is significant against the 9th position pair. The best 8 teams will play in the WTA Finals in Singapore.
