WTA Rankings: a new career and Hungarian record, again

02/04/2018 –  Timi is now in fourth, as the retired Martina Hingis is out of the list.

Formerly singles and even doubles World No1, Martina Hingis has finished her career again after last season’s WTA Finals, but she has been on the world rankings so far. In Singapore, the Swiss legend reached the semifinal and she was World No1 till 2 April 2018. But now, she came out of the rankings, which of course influences the classification of the others.

Timi and Kristina Mladenovic were defeated in the first round of the Miami Open event by the later Champs, Ashleigh Barty and CoCo Vandeweghe, but this did not negatively affect their ranks. The 24-year old Hungarian player was ranked 5th so far, it was also a career and Hungarian record.

Unlocking Hingis means that Timi is on fourth place on April 2, 2018 on the WTA rankings.

The Hungarian player was first a member of top10 on June 8, 2015, then she was 10th. A week later, she was 9th, the on 22 June, 2015, she was 8th. After winning the WTA Finals last year, Timi jumped to the 7th position, and after this victory in the Australian Open in January this year, she was 5th. All the advances are also Hungarian records at the women’s doubles.

Timi reached the second round in singles at the Miami Open, so she has improved three places in the traditional world ranking, now she is 44th. At the Singles Race, she move back from the 27th position to the 31st. At the Doubles Race, the Miami Open semifinalist, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina took the lead, Timi and Kiki Mladenovic is 2nd.
