29/01/2018 – Tímea Babos has achieved a new career and a Hungarian record with the success in Melbourne.
The 24-year old Hungarian player has achieved historic success in several ways at the Australian Open: she was the first Hungarian player in the Women’s Doubles final, and won the title on Friday. Tímea Babos triumphed with Kristina Mladenovic (France), after which she had reached the final in Mixed Doubles with Indian Rohan Bopana. However, the results of the latter category are not counted in the world rankings.
The historic victory in the women’s doubles is also means a lot in the world ranking: Tímea Babos is ranked fifth, it’s a career and Hungarian record. So far, her CH was 7th, after the WTA Finals victory with Andrea Hlaváčková.
The Hungarian player was first a member of top10 on June 8, 2015, she was 10th. A week later, she was 9th, then on 22/June, 2015, she was 8th.
This year’s Doubles Race Leaders are Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic. In singles, the Hungarian player jumped to the 45th position.
