WTA FINALS 2019 (14 000 000 USD, INDOOR CARPET), GROUP RED, ROUND 2
Tímea Babos, Kristina Mladenovic (Hungarian, French) – Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Demi Schuurs (German, Dutch) 7:5, 6:2

The match lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.

“It’s never easy to go out every second day and play against the best, but so far, we did a good job, and I’m very happy about it. We came here to play five matches, hopefully, so we still have some fuel in the tank. We lost a couple close games, a couple no-ads and break points, and then probably it got into our heads. But after that, we fought back really hard together, and we played a very big game at 5-3, and overall, the end of the first set was great. We just picked up our game, and that’s most important, to finish strong.” – Timi said.

Most importantly, the Title Holders secured their place in the semifinal thanks to the second win! Timi is a two-time winner and reach the last four for the third time in a row at the WTA Finals!

In the 46-minute first set, Groenefeld and Schuurs won their serve after 1:1 to 40 (from a broke ball) and then saved their serve in the fifth game from 0-40. In the sixth game, Timi and Kiki took their game from 30-40, but a few minutes later the opponent broke to 30 (3:5).

That’s when the big turn came! The Hungarian-French double took the German-Dutch pair’s serve to 30, then won their own game from 30-40, savng two set points. And there was no stopping: Timi and Kiki Mladenovic broke to 30 and then won their serve to 30, finishing the opening act.

At the start of the second set, Grönefeld and Schuurs broke to 30, leading 2:0. Then Timi and Kiki gave a snappy answer!

The Hungarian-French double won six game sin a row: they broke to 0, to 15 and finally to 40. In the end, after 5:2, the opponent did not win a rally as a receiver.
