WTA Finals 2016: large battle and defeat in the QF

27/10/2016 – The Hungarian-Kazakh duo had a total of three match points in the second set.

The match lasted 2 hours 32 minutes.

 

“It was a very good match! I played very, very well and Slava also! Unfortunately, sometimes her serves were not good, but it happened in the tennis. Overall, We played a high-quality match. I’m glad that I’ve managed to finish the doubles season with such a great tennis! To be sure, I will travel to the WTA Elite Trophy, but I do not know, that I will play or not. Until then, I do not want to close the year, as long as it is not officially decided”– said Timi.

 

The American-Czech pair started better in the 69-minute first set, they jumped to a 4:1 lead in Singapore. However, Timi and Shvedova did not frightened and give great moments for their fans! After 4:2, they broke the opponent to 40, then won their service game to 15.

 

At 5:5, Timi and Shvedova won the 3rd seed pair’s serve to 30, then came the longest and most interesting game of the quarter-final. The Kazakh player saved three break points, but couldn’t lived with 7 set points. But the eight chance was decisive, after Timi hit a wonderful volley.

 

The 70-minute second act was also extremely exciting! After 3:3, Timi and Shvedova broke the opponent, but they came back immediately … A few minutes later, after 5: 5 the Hungarian-Kazakh pair again broke Mattek-Sands and Safarova, then had two match points in the next game. But it was not enough, so came the tie-break. Timi and Shvedova had another match point at 6-5, but the opponent won that act…

 

In the decisive tie-break Mattek-Sands and Safarova played very well, gave no chance for the opponent.

 

After the WTA Finals Timi will travel to Zhuhai, for the season-ending WTA Elite Tropy. The Hungarian player is the first alternate, she will play, if somebody will withdraw from the tournament.
