WTA Elite Trophy: defeat in the second match

Zhang Shuai (Chinese, 12)-Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 13)  7:6 (7-2), 6:4

The match lasted 1 hour 37 minutes.


“We played a good match, I’m sorry to have failed to win. But I’m very tired … Which is not really typical for Me, I’m better tired physically. It was too much the singles and the doubles, together. Today I finished My long year. However, it was a super experience to be here and play in the WTA Elite Trophy! Thank you for your support” – said Timi.


The 23-year old Hungarian player replaced the injured Carla Suarez Navarro on Tuesday, then on Wednesday lost 6:4, 6:2 against Tímea Bacsinyszky. The Swiss star lost 6:1, 6:1 in the opening round, so Tímea Babos has a very tough task against the local hero, Zhang Shuai. The Hungarian youngster must won high to reach the semifinal.


At the beginning of the 60-minute first set Timi broke her Chinese opponent to 30 after 1:0, then saved three break points in the fifth game. After 4:2, the Hungarian player led 40-15, but she lost her service game (4:3).


The fate of the opening set was decided in the tie-break, which was won easily by Zhang.


In the second set Timi broke her opponent after 1:1, and she hold that lead till 4:3. Zhang equalized after a big fight, then closed the match with two easy games.


This was the last match of the season for the Hungarian player.
