02/04/2013 – Timi (ranked 123rd), wins her debut match at the Monterrey Open (235 000 USD) in two sets against Mexico’s Ana Sofia Sanchez.
The meeting lasted 68 minutes.

“It was not easy…Willy-nilly I felt a little pressure, because so far I’ve never been title holder in a tournament, And the rival was a big fighter, I couldn’t deflate for a moment. I’m happy with the win, the beginning is always difficult. But now for sure I’m going to play freely, and of course I look forward to the next game 🙂 “– Timi said.
Timi had a clear chance at Mexico, because her ranked 439th in the world rankings. Thus, the 18-year-old domestic players could only get wild card for the main draw.
In comparison, the 33-minute first set for a long time was much closer than expected. In the first six games the players couldn’t had break point, but there was a difference between them. Timi won twice to 30, while once it was a 40-40 game, while her opponent lost only two rallies (3:3).
Fortunately, the 19-year-old Hungarian tennis player then broke to 30 to lead 5:3 and after that she smoothly won the set.
The sequel brings unexpected turn! Sanchez took her opponent’s serve to 30, and also led 3-1. Timi then took it back to 30, and in the next game she holds the serve from 0-30. The title holder took control of the set, broke Sanchez to 15!
In the end, at 5:3 Sanchez led to 30-0, but later she faced match point after two double faults. She saved the first, but the second match point was vital, Timi advanced to the second round.
In the last 16 the Hungarian teen will meet Ana Ivanovic (17th) or Marta Sirotkina (116th).
