Winning debut in singles in Istanbul

26/04/2017 – The Hungarian player did not give a chance for her opponent in both sets.

Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 2)-Conny Perrin (Swiss) 6:3, 6:2

The match lasted 1 hour 19 minutes in Istanbul.

“I’m happy to win today! The last few weeks were not easy with the thigh injury, but so far it is better day by day. I hope that the situation will not be worse after the matches. I love clay! I know I need to adopt to these conditions, but that was a good start” – said Timi.

The second-seeded Hungarian youngster played her first singles match on clay this season, while her opponent went through the qualies, with two matches in Istanbul.

Timi’s left thigh was well-groomed, but she could still celebrate a confident victory at the end. At the beginning of the 37-minute first set she lost her serve to 30 at 2:0, but she immediately answered with the second break. Then, at 4:1 she won her opponent’s service game to 40.

The Swiss player then won two games, but after 5:3 Timi easily won her serve.

The start of the second set brought a close fight. After 2:1, the Hungarian player saved a break point. At 4:2, she broke Perrin again, this time to 15. Then the second seed won the last game to 0.

The Hungarian player’s next opponent will be the defending champion Çağla Büyükakçay. Timi’s doubles partner in Istanbul is ranked 181st, her career best position was 60 (12 September, 2016). Up to now, she has won 1 WTA and 8 ITF tournament.
