“I’m terribly sorry for this match! I had a lot of opportunities, especially in the first set … I think that I got scared that I led the match. My hand didn’t “run” as good as before. What is positive that I came back after losing a set. In fact, in the final set I served for the match. But maybe I used a wrong tactic”– said Timi.
At the beginning of the 63-minute first set both player had difficult moments: Timi saved two and Vinci saved three break points. In the sixth game Timi won her opponents’s service game to 40, then at 4:2 she saved another two break point.
Unfortunately, after 5:2 Vinci improved a lot, she equalized to 5:5. Then Timi hold her serve from 15-40, and a few minutes later came the tie-break.
The 32-year old Italian player won two receiving point after 4-3, then she won the opening act.
At the beginning of the second set Timi broke her opponent after 1.1, and she hold that lead. She served bravely, and at 5:4 she hold her service game to 15.
In the final set, the Hungarian player immediately broke Vinci, but she couldn’t lived with another break point at 2:0. And later it proved decisive…
Vinci broke back at 5:4, to 30. Few minutes later came the second tie-break.
Timi led 4-2, with a break, but it was not enough. Vinci equalized, then she closed the match with good rallies.
