Through one and a half sets, it was almost perfect quarter-final for Timi and Kristina Mladenovic, but after a lost serving game everything changed, unfortunately till the end…
In the 32-minute first set, the Hungarian-French pair well served and received very good. Timi and her partner won Azarenka’s serve to 0 after 1:1, and it didn’t matter that Mladenovic lost her own game from 40-0.
Then Barty won only two rallies at her own serve, and Timi brought her own game from 15-40. The 1st seeded pair then broke Azarenko to 15 and Mladenovic won the to 30, so it’s 6:2.
In the 45-minute second set, after 2:2 the last year’s finalists broke Barty to 40, then Timi brought her game with confidence.
Unfortunately, after that, things changed, with Azarenka and Barty, who had been thoroughly improved, in the eighth game, taking Mladenovic’s serve from 30-15. The Hungarian player still won her serve after 4:5, but the next two games again won by the opponent. Azarenka and Barty broke to 15 after 6:5.
Unfortunately, the decisive set was one-sided. In the opening game, the No. 1-ranked pair did not use two breakballs, and the Belarusian and Australian players did well, breaking their opponents three times. Azarenka and Barty also led 4-0 and lost their serve, but after that they easily won two games.
