US Open 2019: Timi advanced to Round 2

The first set lasted 47 minutes in New York.

 

“I would like to emphasize that I played well overall. I know Carla Suárez Navarro has been struggling with her back for quite some time, I’m so sorry and I wish the best! I’m obviously happy with my game and the way I played this match. I’m happy to get through and the most important thing is to get ready for the next task”– said Timi.

 

In the 57-minute first and only set, Timi was able to solve many of the most important situations with a lot of nice solutions for her fans. In the second game, Suárez Navarro led 40-0, but Timi was the better as a receiver!

 

After 3:0 the Hungarian player broke again to 40, and then came a short section in which her opponent was a bit more accurate. Suárez Navarro won her opponent’s serve for 40 and came up to 4:2.

 

Timi then fought back in a huge battle, from 15-40, and the last game came. Both players fought hard and the opening set ended after the fourth set ball. Suárez Navarro indicated that she is unable to continue playing due to a back injury.

 

Timi qualified for the third round of the Main Board at the US Open for the third time.

 

The next opponent of the Hungarian player’s will be Cori Gauff.

 

The American player (born: 13 March, 2004) is 140th in the World Rankings, this is her career best. Gauff made it to Round 4 at Wimbledon this year, winning six games along with the qualifier. Two years ago, she was a junior finalist at the US Open and last year was unbeaten in the Roland Garros, also as a junior player.
