30/08/2019 – One single break decided the fate of the third set in favour of Gauff.

The match lasted 2 hour and 25 minutes in New York City.
At the beginning of the 38-minute first set the Hungarian player broke her opponent, Gauff responded immediately. Unfortunately, after 2:2, the American teenager was more accurate, breaking to 30 in the sixth game. Timi led 40-0 after 2:5, had a game point even after the equalizer, but eventually lost her serve.
The 44-minute second set was even tighter, luckily the Hungarian player was the happier at the end! Timi fought with great heart and determination, after 0:1 she turned her serve around from 15-40. Then, after 3:3, she broke to 30 and then brought both of hervice games to 15. So the final act came.
In the first half of the final set, Gauff won twice her serve after saving two break points. She didi t with great winners. And this ultimately proved decisive. Timi won her serve at 3:4 from 15-40, but unfortunately in the next two games her opponent was better.
Gauff brought her organ smoothly and then broke to 30 after 30-30.
On Friday, Timi will be starting the doubles tournament with Kristina Mladenovic.
