US Open 2019: a great victory in the qualies

The match lasted 1 hour and 19 minutes in New York.

 

In the 44-minute opening act the two players reached 4:4 with Arruabarrena saved break points in the sixth and eighth game.

 

As it turned out later, the ninth game proved to be a decisive. Timi served and was 15-40. The 26-year old Hungarian player leveled and then advanced. Arruabarrena leveled at the time, but the next two rally were won again by the server. Timi then led 40-0 as a receiver and immediately closed the opening set.

 

The second set was smoother, but there were some excitements. The Hungarian player broke to 15 after 2:1, then brought her serve to 15. Arruabarrena also led 40-15 in the sixth game, but her opponent reversed and used her second break ball!

 

In the final game, Timi went from 15-40 to match balls, finishing with the third chance.

 

The next opponent of the Hungarian player’s will be the 11th seeded Varvara Lepchenko. The American player (born: 21 May, 1986) is 118th in the World Rankings, has a career best position of 19th (1 October, 2012). So far, Lepchenko has won 12 ITF tournaments in singles.

 

The two players have met four times so far: Timi won in 2012 in Cincinnati 7:6, 6:4, in 2013 in Quangzhou 7:6, 7:5, in 2017 at Indian Wells 4:6, 7:6, 6:2, and this year in Cagnes-sur-Mer 6:4, 6:3.
