“I’m so glad how this game was created! Obviously, We encountered a difficult opponent, We knew that this third round meeting would not be easy. But in the most important moments We made good choices and played well. We’ve worked hard a lot and We talked a lot about how to be even better. Perhaps We’ve been blessed to be successful at the US Open and in later tournaments. I’m happy because our team are still working well, and it gaves good results. From the perspective of My own game, I’m also very happy, I played well at the net and making good decisions in important situations. I do not know When we’re going to continue, sure it’s not on Monday. So a hard work-out is waiting for Me, with a longer tennis and a longer fitness. Of course, there is still plenty to do at this US Open, I will do everything, We will do everything We can to get there as long as possible. I am delighted that this is our fourth quarter-final at a Grand Slam event this season” – said Timi.

It was an important match for the Australian Open-winning Hungarian-French pair, fighting for the QF. Atawo is now “only” 36th, while Groenefeld is “only” 30th at the WTA Rankings, but the 35-year-old American and the 33-year-old German player were also at the top 10.

The second set was also interesting, this time one break decided.

The Hungarian-French pair led 40-0 as a receiver after 2:1, and they managed to lived with the third chance. After that, Timi and Kiki Mladenovic won two own games easily, but in the eight game, they were in trouble. Atawo and Groenefeled tried to capture one of the last chances. Luckily, the American-German duo had only a break point, but could not win the opponent’s serve.

In the end, Timi and her French partner led 40-0, and they finished the match with the fourth chance, after 40-40. This is the fourth QF for them in 2018 at a Grand Slam tournament.
