24/08/2014 – The 14th seed Wimbledon semifinalist Lucie Safarova won in two very close set against Timi in the opening round of the US Open.
The match lasted one hour and 45 minutes.

Timi is ranked 114th, but the difference was not visible, the match was much closet, than expected. In the 48-minute first set the Hungarian youngster saved 7 (!!!) break points at 1:1, and kept the lead til 3:3.
In the seventh game Safarova broke her rival to 30, then had three set points at 5:3. Timi saved all of them,but she couldn’t lived with the break point at 5:4…
In the fifth game of the second set Timi unfortunately lost her service game at 2:2, then Safarova led 4:2. But the 21-year old Hungarian player didn’t give up, she came back to 4:4!
However, in the next game Safarova twice saved a game point and broke again her rival. At 5:4 the Czech player had three match point, but without success! Timi came back to 5:5, but she couldn’t hold her serve…After that Safarova was careful and won the last game from 15-30 to 30, and advanced to the second round.
Timi will play in women’s doubles with Kristina Mladenovic and mixed doubles with Eric Butorac at the US Open.
