US Open 2014: against Serena and Venus Williams in doubles

24/08/2014 – On Sunday the draw was made for the Women’s Doubles at the US Open: the Wimbledon finalist pair of Timi and Kristina Mladenovic will meet the legends of tennis.

The Hungarian-French duo is ranked 7th in New York.


Timi is ranked 16th, while Mladenovic is ranked 13th. This year the Hungarian-French pair played three finals: in February in Paris, in July at Wimbledon and last week in Cincinnati. Thanks to the result they are in the 10th place in this season’s Doubles Race.


The Williams sisters are considered as legends in the sports world: they enjoyed immense success in singles and doubles. They won almost all trophies in singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.


The 32-year old Serena Williams is currently ranked 78th in doubles, but only because nowdays she hardly in this genre. Of course she was World No 1 (07.10.2010). During her career she won 22 WTA women’s doubles competition. She remained unbeaten in a total of 13 Grand Slam doubles tournaments: four times at the Australian Open (2001, 2003, 2009, 2010), twice at the Roland Garros (1999, 2010), five times at Wimbledon (2000, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2009), and twice at the US Open (1999, 2009). All times Venus was her partner, and they never lost a Grand Slam final together !!!


The Williams sisters in 2000, 2008 and 2012, also won the women’s doubles at the Olympic Games!


The 34-year-old Venus Williams is also ranked 78th, and her career best was also the No 1 (07.10.2010). Throughout her career she has won 21 WTA competition in this genre.


This season they started only twice in doubles: they lost in the first round in Dubai and in the second round at Wimbledon.
