24/08/2013 – The 20-year-old Hungarian player hopes to play well in the last Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Otherwise, she will have Italian days in New York, because in singles she will meet Roberta Vinci, while in the doubles she will partner the 2010 Champion of Roland Garros, Francesca Schiavone.
“I think I’m glad with this draw. I’m eager to play against Vinci! We already played once before, in Budapest. I lost in a very close match. Since then, she and I stepped forward, now I hope for a high-quality game. Of course, she will be the favourite, but I want to play my best tennis, I hope I will win”– Timi said.
The doubles world No 1 was finalist in 10 WTA tournament in singles, she triumphed 9 times: in 2007 in Bogotá, in 2009 in Barcelona, in 2010 in Luxembourg, in 2011 in Barcelona, s’Hertogenbosch and Budapest, in 2012 in Dallas and in 2013 in Katowice and Palermo.
Vinci was a quarter-finalist last year at the US Open. In order she beat Urszula Radwanska (6:1, 6:1), Yaroslava Shvedova (3:6, 7:5, 7:5), Dominika Cibulkova (6:2, 7:5) and Agnieszka Radwanska (6:1, 6:4). Finally, she lost against the doubles partner Sara Errani 6:2, 6:4.
On Thursday Timi practiced with the younger Radwanska, even as the “heavens” have done everything to prevent the common session …
“The workouts are conducted fairly well, I say that relatively, because on Thursday morning we had a court from 7 to 8:30, the afternoon session was washed away by the rain. But even so, I hit an hour with Ula”– Timi reported about her first experiences from New York.
