The 23-year old Hungarian player has always fought heroically against the Russian start, who is fighting for the place at the WTA Finals. Timi served well against the defending champion and first-seeded Kuznetsova. The 9th seed also played good as a receiver, did everything for success.
Timi broke back to 0, and few minutes later came the tie-break. And the Hungarian youngster was the dominant player on the court! She jumped to a 5-0, and easily finished the set.
Unfortunately, the decisive set brought excitement only until 3:2…Kuznetsova pulled away 3:0, but Timi broke back (3:2).
But it was clear that something was wrong with the movement of the Hungarian player…And it confirmed, when she requested medical break. Timi returned a few minutes later, but with an left thigh, with a big bandage on her left leg…
The Hungarian player tried everything, but because of the injury, she could no longer had a realistic chance to pick a fight. Kuznetsova brékelt first to 40, then to 0, closed the quarter-finals.
