Timi won the singles event in Gifu

04/05/2014 – The World No 118 Tímea Babos lost only three games against Ekaterina Bychkova in the final of the 75 000 USD ITF tournament in Gifu.

The match lasted 1 hour 3 minutes. This is the 11th ITF singles title of the 20-year old Hungarian player., she was a finalist another 7 times.

“Finally a tournament victory in singles as well! This week I showed a lot of good tennis, I’m happy with the result! I hope this is only the beginning! Now I will go to the clay court!” Timi said happily after the final.


The second seed of the tournament only lost one set in the route to the final, she twice won in less then an hour. But the final was her most easy match.


Bychkova had a break point in the first game, but it was the last time, that she had a chance in the final! After 1:0 Timi broke her rival – she lived with the third opportunity – then jumped to a 3:0 lead.


The Russian won the fourt game, but after 4:1 she lost again her service game. At 5:1 Timi won the seventh game of the 24-minute first set to 15.


The second set was closer, at least it lasted longer. Bychkova saved two break point in the opening game, but after 1:1 she couldn’t hold her service game. Timi easily jumped to a 5:1 lead with another break.


The Russian then won another game, but at 5:2 Timi didn’t lost a rally. So the Hungarian youngster won the Gifu event.


Timi’s next tournament will be the Sparta Prague Open (100 000 USD + H) in the Czech capital.
