The match lasted one hour and 50 minutes.
After the morning rain the court dried slowly in Florianopolis, so the first quarter-final started with an almost two-hour delay. In the 37-minute first set Timi’s serves were not good…She lost five service games, twice from 30-0. So, her four break was not enough for a success. At 5:4, Ostapenko lost no rally behind the serves.
The 39-minute second set brought the joyful change! In the opening two game Timi lost no rally, but then, she coulnd’t hold the break advantage. But she fought with a great heart and desire, she struggled for success. And it brought the result.
After 4:3, Timi broke her opponent to 30. Then she served for the set, and she hold the crucial game after the third set point.
At the beginning of the final game, at 1: 1 Timi broke the Latvian player to 30, then after 3:2 she saved a break point (4:2). And the next game was decisive. Timi received very well and she won her opponent’s serve to. And in the last game the Hungarian youngster lost only one rally. She advanced to the semifinal in Florianopolis!
Timi’s next opponent will be Ana Bogdan. The 23-year old Romanian player ranked 127th, her career best position was 123 (25 July 2016). So far, she has won 11 ITF tournaments in singles. This year, she remained unbeaten in Grado (Italy, 25 000 USD, clay).
