Timi semifinalist in Donetsk

01/08/2013 – After an eventful match Timi (ranked 103rd) won against Alexandra Krunic (ranked 172nd) and reached the semifinal of the 75 000 USD Viccourt Cup.

The meeting lasted 1 hour 39 minutes. The third seed Hungarian will meet the Portuguese Maria Joao Koehler (ranked 139th) in Ukraine.

“It was a very tough match, the quality was high. I played well, but she also played incredibly well. It was a high-level tennis. I almost played as good as against Halep in the first set. I enjoyed it 🙂 – Timi said after the quarter-final success.


Timi at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest started very well against Krunic, but after 4:0 was much more difficult. Finally, the Hungarian player won in three sets 6:3 come on, 6:7, 6:3 and advanced to the second round.


However, the world No 172 began much better in Donetsk 172, the Serbian broke after 1:1 and then led 3:1. However the third seed of the Viccourt Cup quickly took back the lost service game, and led 40-0 at 3:3. But Krunic again broke Timi and at 5:4 she served for the first set. But the young Hungarian broke back to 15, then came the tie-break.


The tie-break, fortunately did not bring excitement! Timi led 5-1, and easily won this act.


The second set brought a new excitement. Timi had break advantage three times, but she hold her serve only after 3:2. And at 4:2 she broke the Serbian once again, and led 5:2. But Krunic fought back to 5:4, but in the tenth game Timi won the service game to 0! So she advanced to the last four in Donetsk.


The Hungarian player’s next opponent will be the also 20-year-old Maria Joao Koehler. The Portuguese tennis player currently ranked 139th, her carreer best was 102nd in February 25. She didn’t played final at WTA Tour, but already reached 10 ITF finals, won three times.


Koehler, as a qualifier reached this year the second round of the Australian Open. But after that she hardly won a match for months. But last week she reached the final at Astana (100 000 USD), however she lost the last game against Nadiya Kichenok (6:4, 7:5).
