Timi & Safarova is quarter-finalist in doubles

06/01/2014 – Timi and Lucie Safarova confidently won in the first round of the doubles event of the WTA tournament in Sydney against the duo of Simona Halep and Raluca Olaru.

The Hungarian- Czech duo reached the second round in 73 minutes.

“I really enjoyed the match together with Lucie, she is a very nice girl! At the beginning of the match I was a little cautious at the net, which is unusual for me I think . However, I played confidently at the baseline. We hardly won the first set, then in the second, we become much better, I also moved better at the net. It became easier, we won 6:2. I’m happy with the win, I can play matches this week, not just stay in the work-outs :D” – Timi said.

 

Timi and Safarova first played side by side, but the Romanians also were not even knit. It looked at the 48-minute first set, the four players rarely hold their own serve.

 

In the first part of the set the Hungarian-Czech duo played better, they pulled away 4:1. Until then, only Timi hold her service game, but after that came Halep and Olaru…Unfortunately, they turned around the game, they broke twice and led 5:4.

 

Fortunately Timi again won her service game, the the Hungarian-Czech duo tokk the control again. They broke the opponent, then Safarova first time hold her service game, smoothly, which ended the eventful first set.

 

At the beginning of the second set the match went even to 2:2. After that Timi and Safarova broke to 15, then hold the next service game smoothly. At 4:2 they broke to 30, then won the last game smoothly, they reached the next round!

 

In the quarterfinal Timi and Safarova will meet Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik. The Czech-Slovenian duo won 7:5, 6:4 against Kimiko Date-Krumm and Alicja Rosolska.

 

The 38-year-old Peschke currently 16th in the doubles world ranking, her career best was 1st place back in 07.04.2011. During her career, she has won 25 WTA competition in this genre, last year celebrated once. In the 2013 season Peschke triumphed in Brussels (690 000 USD), was a finalist in Brisbane (1 000 000 USD), in Nuremberg (235 000 USD), in Toronto (2 369 000 USD), in Cincinnati (2 369 000 USD), reached the last four in Doha (2 369 000 USD), in Eastbourne (690 000), at Wimbledon (16 775 934 USD) . All the time Anna-Lena Groenefeld was her partner. In the second round of the US Open the Czech-German duo won 6:4 , 6:4 over Timi and Francesca Schiavone.

 

In the first tournament of the 2014 season Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik lost 6:2, 6:3 in the quarterfinal in Brisbane (1 000 000 USD) against Kristina Mladenovic and Galina Voskoboeva (French, Kazakh).

 

The Peschke-Srebotnik duo in 2011, won the women’s doubles at Wimbledon. In 2012 Srebotnika was a champion with Peschke in Sydney. Last year the Slovenian celebrated with Russia’s Nadia Petrova.

 

The 32-year-old Srebotnik now is 6th in the WTA Doubles Ranking, her career best was 1st in 07.04.2011. During her career she has won 34 competition in this genre, in addition to 2011 Wimbledon triumph, she was a finalist in 2007 (Co: Ai Sugiyama) and 2010 (Co: Peschke) at Roland Garros, in 2007 at Wimbledon (Co: Sugiyama) and 2006 – in the US Open (Co. Dinara Safina). The experienced Slovenian won five Grand Slam mixed doubles titles!

 

Srebotnik in the 2013 season was a finalist in eight WTA tournaments.After Sydney she won in Miami  (5,185,625 USD, Co: Petrova), in Eastbourne (Co: Petrova) and Toronto (Co: Jelena Jankovic). She played in the final in Doha (Co: Petrova), in Dubai (2 000 000 USD, Co: Petrova), at Indian Wells (5,185,625 USD, Co: Petrova) and in New Haven (750 000 USD, Co: Anabel Medina Garrigues).
