Timi hit back to Jabeur, semifinalist in Toronto

01/11/2013 – Timi got into the last four in the 50 000 USD ITF tournament in Toronto, after winning in three sets against Ons Jabeur.

The match lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.

“First of all, I am very happy that I was able to win today ! Jabeur is a difficult opponent, she has an uncomfortable style for Me. I was able to win the high-quality first set, after she had more break chances. Unfortunately, the match were turned in the second  set, but I knew that it may change again. So I tried to stay with her. In the final set she had again a break advantage, but I came back and then I took her service game again, this time from 15-40, so I pulled away 4:2. From that point it was easy to win the whole match. It was an absolute „headtriumph”, it’s a special pleasure : D!“- Timi said shortly after the win.


The Hungarian and Tunisian player met last week int he semifinal at  Saguenay. The match was won by Jabeur 7:6, 4:6, 6:1, then he 2011 Roland Garros junior champion won the final.


This time, Timi again played three sets with Jabeur, but fortunately thes result was quite different ! The Tunisian began with a break, but the first seed of the tournament equalized immediately. Timi then cleared all break points of the rival, int he first set a total of six.


The Hungarian player at 4:3 again took her opponent ‘s serve , and won the next game to 30. With it, Timi won the first set.


At the beginning of a 25-minute second set Jabeur again broke the young Hungarian, buti mi broke at 2:0. Unfortunately, then came the Tunisian, who won four games in a row .


Jabeur again began the final set with a break, but the 20- year-old Hungarian player equalized . After 3:2 Timi broke her rival to 40, then smoothly won her own. In the eighth game Timi had three match points as a receiver at 40-0, but Jabeur equalized The Hungarian had two more match points, without success. But she lived with the sixth opportunity and advanced to the semifinal.


Timi’s next opponent will be Melanie Oudin in Canada.


The 22- year-old American player is ranked 117th, her career best was 31st in 1904.2010. During her career she has won 5 ITF singles tournament , in 2012 she triumphed at the Birmingham WTA tournament. In the final Oudin won 6:4 , 6:2 against the former world number one Jelena Jankovic .


Oudin was a quarter- finalist in 2009 at the US, she defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova , Elena Dementieva , Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova, finally lost against Caroline Wozniacki.


Last year at Wimbledon Timi won 6:4, 4:6, 6:3 against Oudin in the first round.
