Yvonne Meusburger (Austrian, 3)-Timea Babos (Hungarian) 2:6, 6:2, 6:1

“Unfortunately it was not succeeded today … I played well in the first set , I played well for a long time in the second set, my tennis worked well. But then I lost my second return game from two break points…But it was not my fault. After that I lost a silly service game, then came a long service game, when she broke me again. 4:1 for her, but it easily could be 3:2 for me…I think, I began to panick, I feel, that I lost the game with a good performance. So I started to make mistakes, I had bad decisions. And she made less and less mistakes. Meusburger is a very stable player, she is able to go through the same standard . It was the crucial difference . I hope I learn from this match. If I began to play more and more in this high level play, in the future I will win these kind of meetings” – Timi said after the match.

It is an aching defeat, because the World number 107 Hungarian played very well for more than one set, she had a good chance of winning.

At the beginning of the 32 -minute first set  Meusburger hold her service games relatively easily, however, Timi after great battles. But after 2:2 the 20-year old Hungarian took control, in the sixth game she broke the Austrian and again after 5:2.

The beginning of the second set however, changed everything. At 1:1 Timi had two break points, but couldn’t take advantage of them. Then the 29-year old Meusburger broke her rival, and after 3:1 she won a long return game, took advantage of the fifth chance. The Austrian won this set in 35 minutes.

Timi led 1:0 in the final set, but after that she had no chance. She lost twice her serve to 15, while she had no break point…Meusburger finished the match to 40 as a receiver in the seventh game of the final set and got into the last 16.
