Timi advanced to the main draw in singles in Monterrey

03/03/2015 – Timi won in three sets against Katerina Bondarenko in the third qualifying round of the 500,000 USD WTA tournament, so she advanced to the main draw in Monterrey.

The match lasted 2 hours 11 minutes. Timi’s opponent in the main draw will be Silvia Soler-Espinosa.

In the 50-minute opening set Timi had break points first, but the rival saved them. At 3:3 Bondarenko led 40-0 as a receiver, but Timi hold the service game. At 5:4 the Ukrainian player saved two set points, but after 6:5 Timi lived with the next chance.


At the beginning of the second set Bondarenko broke to 40, after missing another three chances. The the 28-year old Ukrainian saved a break point, then at 3:1 she won Timi’s service game to 0.


At 4:1 the Hungarian youngster had a total of four break points, but without success. At 5:2 Bondarenko won her own service game to 0, so she equalized.


The third ser was decided after 3:3. Timi broke her rival in the eight game, but she immediately lost her lead. But the Hungarian youngster played very bravely, and broke her opponent again, this time to 15. So Timi advanced to the main draw.


The Hungarian player’s next opponent will be Silvia Soler-Espinosa. The 27-year old Spanish player is ranked 62nd, her career best was 54 (21 May 2012). During her career she has won four ITF singles competition. Last year she reached the final of the 250 000 WTA event in Strasbourg. Before that Timi won 7:6, 6:2 against Soler-Espinosa in the opening round of the 100,000 USD ITF tournament in Prague.
