The world’s best pair is the next opponent

23/03/2013 – On Saturday evening, it was decided that the world’s number one pair, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci will be the next opponent to Timi & Mandy Minella.


In the opening round the Italian duo won in 1 hour 39 minutes, 6:7, 6:2, 11-9 against Japanese Kimiko Date-Krum and Australian Casey Dellacqua.


Timi has experience against both Italian players in singles. She beat Errani last year in the so memorable semi-final of the Monterrey competition (6:4, 6:7 (3-7), 6:4). Few weeks ago in Doha Errani won easily (6:4, 6:0). The 19-year-old Hungarian player was beaten (4:6, 7:5, 6:2) by Vinci in the second round in 2011 at the tournament in Budapest.


Now the 25-year Errani is the placed player in singles and the second in doubles, but last year on 10 September she was the first in WTA-ranks. During her career she had 19 WTA doubles titles. With Vinci she was a finalist four times in Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open last year, they lost against Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva (7:5, 4:6, 3:6). They won at the 2012 Roland Garros (against Maria Kirilenko, Nadia Petrova 4:6, 6:4, 6:2), and the U.S. Open (against Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 6:4, 6.2), and this year in Melbourne (against Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua 6:2, 3:6, 6:2).


This year the Italians wont before and after the Australian Open in Doha and in Paris, they were finalist in Sydney and in the semifinal in Brisbane. Recently at Indian Wells the lost in the last 16 against Hsieh Su-Wei and Shuai Peng (6:2, 6:3).


Before the Miami tournament Errani and Vinci led the point’s standings, the second was Srebotnik and Petrova and the third was Makarova and Vesnina. Timi & Mandy Minella was at the 19th place.
Timi last year won the doubles title with Hsieh Su-Wei against the then world’s first Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond (7:5, 6:7, 10-8).
