Timi and Andrea Hlaváčková played their sixth final together at the WTA Tour. The Hungarian-Czech pair triumphed in Rabat, Quebec City and Tashkent (all WTA International tournaments), while in Madrid and Beijing (both Premier Mandatory) lost their finals. This time, Timi and Andrea Hlaváčková reached the final of a Premier event. In January, the Hungarian player won the Sydney tournament with Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. While the Czech player won in Shenzhen with Shuai Peng feom China, and they were finalist in the Australian Open and Dubai.

 

It was Timi’s 23rd doubles final at the WTA Tour and she won the title for the 15th time.

 

The Hungarian-Czech pair started very well in the 26-minute first set. Timi and Hlaváčková won the opponent’s serve to 40, then to 30, after 2:0. The first seeded team led 4:0, and had a set point in the seventh game. They missed it, but did not gave a chance for the opponent after 5:2. Timi and her Czech partner won the eight game to 15.

 

The 33-second second set brought a big change…Timi’s serves were not as affactive as before, the opponent broke her twice. So, it made nothing, that the Hungarian-Czech pair broke after 2:1. Melichar and Smith hold their break advantage after 4:2.

 

The decisive tie-break was one-sided. Timi and Hlaváčková were perfect behind the serves and they won three receiver’s point. They broke the opponent after 1-1, 4-1 and 7-3.

Next week Timi and Andrea Hlaváčková will play at the WTA Finals. They will be sseded 4th, because Bethanie Mattek-Sands could not start alongside Lucie Šafářová. The US-player had a dangerous knee injury at Wimbledon.
