Taiwan Open: hard match and victory in singles

01/02/2018 – The Hungarian player led with a set and a break, but she finally won in three sets.

The match lasted 2 hours 7 minutes in Taipei.

 

“It was a very big and extremely difficult match. Jakupović played well! The court is slow, but it’s rather favors my opponent. Yesterday and today I had to move a lot. But Jakupović is much better player, than her rankings position. I’m happy to win this match! It was very difficult first, second and third set. As soon as I felt in the decisive set that I had a chance, I tried to take advantage of it. This was the key to victory. I’m really happy. Recently I had an ice bath, and soon came the doubles. Going further!” – said Timi.

 

In the 43-minute first set, the Slovenian player had the first break points, and she lived with the third chance. Fortunately, Timi immediately replied, winning her opponent’s serve to 15 and broke her again after 4:3, to 40.

 

In the ninth game Jakupović saved two set points, but finally the opening act ended.

 

The 48-minute second set moved smoothly to 3:3, and a turn-key game began. Timi broke her opponent to 30, then had two game points, to a 5:3 lead. Unfortunately, she did not use the chances, and lost her serve. The Slovenian player hold her serve to 30, then saved a total of four game points after 5:4. And she closed the second act as a receiver.

 

The decisive set was smoothly formed. The Hungarian player won four games in a row after 0:1, she broke her opponent to 30, and 0. Jakupović did not lose a rally as a areceiver in the sixth game, but this was only a temporary improvement. Timi broke in a big battle, to 40, then hold her serve to 30.

 

The next opponent of the 4th seeded Hungarian player will be Magda Linette.

 

The Polish player (born: 12 February, 1992) is 60th in the world ranking, which is her career best position. So far, she has won 1 WTA-125 and 11 ITF events. Recently in the Australian Open, she reached the third round. At the Taiwan Open she won 6:2, 6:0 against Han (China) and then 6:1, 6:7, 7:6 against Johanna Larsson (Sweden).

 

In January at Shenzhen Timi defeated Linette, 6:2, 6:1.
