Taiwan Open: a successful QF in singles

The match lasted 1 hour 3 minutes in Taipei.


“It’s clear I’m tiring and tired. I had a lot of matches on this long trip. I hope, I will be able to play two more days in this tournament! I’ll do My best to play well in the next day(s). It was a great match today. No question, I spend a lot of time on my physique to be ok. But I’m ready for Saturday’s assignments. Go on ahead, forward” – said Timi.


In January, the two player met in Shenzhen, Timi won 6:2, 6:1. This time, Linette also had no chance, she made her opponent’s life difficult only for a short time.


In the 27-minute first set, the 4th seed Hungarian player broke her opponent in the second game, to 30, then confidently retained that lead. In the sixth game Timi led 40-0 as a receiver and won the game to 15.


The most difficult moments were in the last period of the set. Timi led 5:1, 40-15, but could not lived with three set points. Indeed. She had to save a break point. Finally, the Hungarian youngster won the fourth set point.


At the beginning of the second act, the Hungarian player broke Linette to 40 in the second game. But she lost that break advantage after 2:2. Fortunately, after that, Timi again won her opponent’s serve, and after 3:2, she easily hold her next two service games. In the ninth game, the 4th seed broke the Polish player to 40 and finished the QF.


Timi’s next opponent will be Yafan Wang. The Chinese player (born: 30 April, 1994) is 152nd, her career best position was 115th (14 November, 2016). So far she has won 9 ITFs in singles.


The two players have met twice: Wang won in 2015 Hua Hin (Thailand, 125 000 USD, indoor carpet) 6:2, 6:3, then in Beijing 3:6, 6:4, 6:1.
