05/10/2017 – The Hungarian-Czech pair came back from a set down against Bertens and Goerges.

The match lasted 1 hour 21 minutes in Beijing.
The QF in China’s capital was tight and close. Finally, the Hungarian-Czech pair won, and within a few hours they celebrate again a great success. Timi and Andrea Hlaváčková became aware of the fact that they are among the participants in the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore.
In the 31-minute opening act, the Dutch-German double was better and more accurate. Bertens and Goerges broke the opponent to 40 in the first game and retained their advantage. Indeed! In the seventh game they had three break points, but they finished the set only after 5:3, as a receiver. The finished the opening act with a break.
The 34-minute second set brought a turn. Timi and Hlaváčková broke the opponent to 30, and 40, they were in a total control. The Hungarian-Czech pair played better in every area, but after 5: 1 came a smaller downturn. The opponent saved two sets points and came back to 5:3, with a break.
Luckily after 5:3 again Timi and Hlaváčková was the better, they broke Goerges to 30.
The decisive tie-break was unilateral for a long time. The Hungarian-Czech pair played well, and with two break points they led 8-4. Then there were some imprecise shots and Bertens/Goerges came back (9-9). This did not disturb the Hungarian-Czech pair, they won another receiver’s point, then finished the QF behind Hlaváčková’s serve.
The Hungarian-Czech pair’s opponent in the semifinal will be the 2nd seed Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
Makarova, (born: 7 June, 1988),is 4th in the world rankings, with a career best position of 3rd (8 June, 2015). So far, the Russian player has won 12 WTA and 9 ITF tournaments in doubles. She remained unbeaten with Vesnina in 2013, at the Roland Garros, in 2014 at the US Open and this year in Wimbledon, and they were finalist in 2014 at the Australian Open and in 2016 at the Roland Garros. The Russian pair won the Rio Olympics and the WTA Finals in Singapore in 2016.
Vesnina (born: 1 August, 1986) is 4th in the world rankings, with the career best position of 3rd (17 February, 2014). So far, the Russian player has won 17 WTA and 6 ITF events in doubles.
In 2017 Makarova & Vesnina triumphed at Wimbledon, in Dubai (United Arab Emirates, 2 365 250 USD, hard court) and in Toronto (Canada, 2 735 139 USD, hard court).
