St. Petersburg: defeat in the qualies

09/02/2020 – After the opening set, Liudmila Samsonova served very well, hit aces and did not have to face a single break point.

The match lasted 2 hour and 15 minutes.


This year the Russian player has already won against Kristina Mladenovic and Sloane Stephens, and also this time she played very well.


In the 49-minute first set, Timi won her opponent’s serve three times for 30, and Samsonova came back twice. It was crucial that after 4:4 the Hungarian player won her serve from 30-40.


At the end of the opening act, in the twelfth game, Timi brought her serve from 15-40.


Unfortunately, the very beginning of the second set brought a big turn, after which there was no further change. Samsonova broke to 30 in the second game, then took advantage with quite a good serving. The Russian player scored 4 aces in the first set, then 5 in the second and 4 in the third, and did not allow her opponent to have a break point in the second and third acts.


Samsonova won her serve to 15 after 5:3, ending the 45-minute set.


In the third set, Timi always led until 2:2, but int he fifth game she only won 2 ralliy behind her own serve. Her opponent then brought her own game from 15-30, then broke again after four serving advantages. The last game was won by Samsonova 0.
