14/06/2013 – Late Friday afternoon, the qualifying draw was made for the Aegon International (690 000 USD) in Birmingham: Timi will meet Lara Arruabarrena.
“In the recent weeks we focused primarily on fitness trainings, but in the last few days I have much more tennis. In Birmingham we practiced indoors on mornings, late afternoons, however, on grass. True, the outdoor courts were not in the best condition. But I needed a lot of tennis… Today we managed two work-outs, the courts are fantastic in Eastbourne”– Timi said.
The 22-year-old Spaniard is currently 82nd, her career best was 70th on May 6.
Arruabarrena won 11 singles ITF-tournaments, last year, also won on the WTA Tour. She triumphed in Bogota (235 000 USD) on clay, in the final she surpassed Russian Alexandra Panova (6:2, 7:5).
The Spaniard played three times on the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, last year she reached the second round in the US Open.
This season she won the 125 000 USD ITF-tournament in Cali, she lost only one set in five matches. Then she reached the quarterfinal in Bogota and played superbly at Indian Wells. Arruabarrena won against Sesil Karatantcheva, Varvara Lepchenko and Roberta Vinci, and in the last 16 she lost 7:5, 6:0 against Maria Sharapova. In Miami and Katowice she lost in the first round.
This week Timi played on grass in Birmingham, but could’t pass the first round against qualifier Nadiya Kichenok of Ukraine.
The young Hungarian will play also doubles in Eastbourne with Mandy Minella of Luxembourg.
