Smooth doubles victory in Tashkent

10/09/2013 – Timi and Yaroslava Svedova confidently advanced to the doubles quarter-final of the 235 000 USD Tashkent Open.

The Hungarian – Kazakh duo’s next opponent will be Michaella Krajicek and Alexandra Panova.

“I really enjoyed the game with Yaro! She is a very nice girl, an experienced players! I couldn’t play every day with a multiple Grand Slam champion. The game went well today. Tomorrow we’ll need again the good form, because it will be a difficult match”– Timi said.

 

Timi on Monday and Shvedova on Tuesday lost in singles tournament, but won easily in the first round in doubles. The Hungarian-Kazakh duo lost the control only for few minutes, but this did not affect the result.

 

In the 32-minute first set, Timi and Shvedova jumped to a 4:0 lead, broke to rival to 15 and 40. Then Palkina and Pekhova unexpectedly broke back once, and catched up to 5:3. But the ninth game was won by Timi to 30, she hit two aces.

 

In the second set the Hungarian-Kazakh pair pulled away again 4:0, then the rival won a game. Moreover at 4:1 Palina and Pekhova had three break points, but could not capitalize from this chance. In the last game Timi and Shvedova broke from 0-30 and finished the mach.

 

The next opponent is more challenging in Tashkent, the Dutch and Russian player is a real doubles specialist.

 

The 24 -year-old Krajicek struggled with heart problems for a long time . So now she’s only 238th in doubles rankings, but she was the 34th placed back in 09.25.2006. She was a finalist in doubles 14 times on the WTA Tour: won in 2006 in Palermo in Budapest with Slovak Janette Husarová, in 2008 in s’Hertogenbosch with Marina Erakovic from New Zealand, while in 2010 she triumphed with the American Vania King in Memphis. A few weeks ago, Timi and Krajicek won in Suzhou the 125 000 USD event.

 

The also 24 -year-old Panova is 67th in the doubles rankings, her career best was the 42nd back in April 15th. During her career she has won three WTA competition in this genre : in 2010, Tashkent (Co: Tatiana Pouchek) in 2012 in Bogotá (Co: Eva Birnerova ) and Fes (Co: Petra Cetkovska ). This year she has been featured in two finals , but lost the last match in Pattaya City (Co: Akgul Ammanmuradova ) and Bogota (Co: Birnerova). In the final in Colombia she defeated by Timi and Mandy Minella, 6:4, 6:3!
