Shenzhen: another triumph in singles

Shenzhen: another triumph in singles

07/11/2019 – Timi reach the quarter-final after a three set victory.

SHENZHEN LONGHUA OPEN 2019 (100 000 USD, HARD COURT), SINGLES, ROUND 2
Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 5)-Bibiane Schoofs (Dutch) 6:2, 2:6, 6:0

The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes.

In the 32-minute first set, Timi pulled to a 5-0 lead, winning her opponent’s serve to 15 and 30. Then came a change for a few minutes, Schoofs brought her serve smoothly and then broke to 30 from 30-0. Fortunately, this did not bother the Hungarian player, who won the next game as a receiver, after four serving advantages.

The 33-minute second act made a big difference… Schoofs improved behind the serves and broke Timi after 1:1 and 4:2, both times to 30. Then, at 5:2, she won to 30, so the final set came.

The beginning of the third set proved to be crucial. In a big battle, Timi brought the opening game from a break point, and in the sequel, she won her opponent’s serve twice to 15. The Dutch player had no answer to that, though she fought hard.

The fifth game was brought by Timi after a huge fight and three breakballs, and in the closing game she broke to 40 after Schoofs’ lead, 40-15.

The next opponent of the Hungarian player will be Lin Zhu, who was seeded 2nd.

The Chinese player (born: 28 January, 1994) is 83rd in the World Rankings, the best of her career. Lin Zhu so far has won 10 ITF tournaments in singles.

The two players have met twice so far: Timi won in 2013 in Suzhou/China, 6:4, 6:4, and this year in Ilkley, 6:1, 6:0.
