Seoul: a great victory against Ostapenko

17/09/2019 – Timi broke the 2017 Roland Garros Champ a total of three times.

KOREA OPEN (250 000 USD, HARD COURT), SINGLES, ROUND 1
Tímea Babos (Hungarian)-Jelena Ostapenko (Latvian) 6:3, 6:3

The match lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes.

In the second game of the 32-minute first set, Timi smoothly won her opponent’s serve and kept her advantage through accurate and calm play, up to 5:3.

Then came a very heavy and important game. Ostapenko led 40-0 as a receiver, followed by another break point after 40-40. The Hungarian player saved that chance too and then used her second set ball!

The second act brought a tough battle with Hungarian success! Timi broke to 15 after 2:2, then lost only one rally in the next two serving game.

Then, at 5:3, the Hungarian player got three matchballs and lived with the last chance. So Timi was placed in the top 16 in Seoul!

Timi’s next opponent will be the 3rd seeded Karolina Muchová.

The Czech player (born: 21 August, 1996) is 45th in the World Rankings with a career best position of 43rd (15 July, 2019). Muchová has so far won 2 ITF competitions in singles. She was a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon earlier this year and reached the third round of the US Open, and the final of the 250 000 WTA Tour tournament in Prague.
