Rome: smooth defeat in singles

16/05/2017 – Timea Bacsinszky outplayed her opponent behind the serves and as a receiver.

The match lasted 1 hour and 14 minutes in Rome.

At the beginning of the 41-minute set, Timi hold her serve from 0-40, but afterwards her opponent won five games in a row. Bacsinszky broker the rival twice to 40. The 24-year old Hungarian player saved her next service game from 0-40 again at 1:5, but then her opponent finished the opening act to 40.


The second set did not change the match. Tímea Bacsinszky player much better behind the serves and as a receiver. She jumped to a 4:0 lead, then easily hold her serve after 4:1, and 5:2.


Timi will also play doubles in Rome with Andrea Hlaváčková. The Hungarian-Czech double was seeded 4th, so they got Bye in the opening round. Then they will play with Lara Arruabarrena and Aranxta Parra-Santonja.


Arruabarrena, (born: 20 March 1992), is ranked 57th, her career best position was 28 (22 February 2016). So far she has won 7 WTA and 8 ITF events. This year she reached the QF at Indian Wells (United States, 7 669 423 USD, hard court, Co: Liang Chen) and in Bogota (Colombia,  250 000 USD, hard court, Co: Mariana Duque-Marino).


Parra-Santonja, (born: 9 November, 1982), is ranked 65th, her career best position was 22 (22 November 2012). Up to now she has won 11 WTA and 9 ITF tournaments in this genre. In 2011, in Wimbledon, and in 2014 Roland Garros she was quarter-finalist in women’s doubles. Last week she was semi-final in Madrid (Spain, 5 439 350 USD, clay, Co: Silvia Soler-Espinosa).
