Roland Garros 2021: victorious start in the qualies

25/05/2021 – Timi won the tie-break of the decisive set.

Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 4.)-You Xiaodin (Chinese) 6:4, 2:6, 7:6 (7-2)

 

The match lasted 2 hour and 35 minutes in Paris.

 

In the 46-minute opening set Timi led 2:1 and 4:3 with a break, but You immediately equalized both times. In the ninth game the Hungarian player won her opponent’s serve again, then hold her serve to 30.

 

In the 43-minute second set You was much better behind the serves and as a receiver. She jumped to a 5:2 lead, then broke again after the 1 and a hour rain delay.

 

Timi began the third set very well and promising. She led 3:0 with breaks, losing only two rally. But came the next big turn…

 

You won three games in a row, she equalized for 3:3. After that came six breaks, till 6:6. The Hungarian player had an unsuccessfull match point from 15-40 after 6:5.

 

The tie-break was smooth Timi won all the receiver’s points, losing only two rally behind the serves.

 

In Round 2 of the qualies the Hungarian player will meet Ana Konjuh.

 

The Croatian athlete (born: 27 December 1997) came back from a long injury break, so she is ranked 144th. Her career best position was 20th (31 July 2017). So far, she has won 1 WTA Tour and 2 ITFs in Singles. Five year ago she reached the last 8 at the US Open. Few days ago she was finalist in Belgrade at the Serbia Ladies Open (250 000 USD).
