On Sunday afternoon, the draw for the women’s doubles was made in the second Grand Slam tournament of the season: Timi and Kristina Mladenovic will meet Shuai Zhang and Alja Tomljanovic.

 

The Australian Open Champs were seeded 1st at the Roland Garros after Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina will start with new partners.

 

Zhang (born: 21 January, 1989) is 58th in the world rankings, with a career best position of 29th (1 April, 2013). The Chinese player has won 5 WTA Tour, 1 WTA125s and 9 ITF tournaments in doubles. This year she remained unbeaten in Istanbul (Turkey, $ 250 000 USD, clay, Co: Liang Chen). Six years ago she was quarter-finalist at the US Open, this is her best result ever in this genre, at a Grand Slam tournament.

 

Tomljanovic, (born: 7 May, 1993) is 279th in the world rankings, with a career best position of 47th (5 January 5, 2015). The Croatian-born Australian player has won 3 ITFs in this genre. Four years ago she was quarter-finalist at the Australian Open, this is her best result ever in this genre, at a Grand Slam tournament.
