Roland Garros 2016: short match in doubles

27/05/2016 – The duo of Cibulkova and Flipkens led 4: 1, when the Slovakian player retired at the French Open.

The Hungarian-Kazakh pair did not start well, they did not served well…Cibulkova and Flipkens broke the opponent is the opening act to 30, then hold their serve to 15.


Timi and Svedova tried to come back after 0:2, but without success. They lost the second service game to 40, then the opponent jumped to a 4:0 lead.


In the fifth game the 4th seeds lost only one rally. Then the Slovak-Belgian pair prepared for the next service game, which never happened…Cibulkova could not continue the match due to stomach problems.


In the next round Timi and Shvedova will meet Margarita Gasparyan and Svetlana Kuznetsova.


The 21-year old Gasparyan stands at 37th position in the world ranking in doubles, it’s the best of her career so far. During her career, she has won 3 WTA and 8 ITF tournament in this genre. This year she was a semifinalist in Miami (United States, 6,844,139 USD, hard court, Co: Monica Niculescu). At the semifinal she lost against Timi and Shvedova. Later, the Russian player was a tournament winner in Prague (Czech Republic, 500 000 USD, clay, Co: Andrea Hlavackova).


The 30-year old Kuznetsova is currently ranked 117th, her career best position was 3 (7 June 2004). So far, she has won 16 WTA tournament in this genre. She was a Champion at the Australian Open in 2005 and 2012, while she played in the final at Roland Garros in 2004, at Wimbledon in 2005 and at the US Open in 2003 and 2004.
