Roland Garros 2016: great battle & defeat in doubles

29/05/2016 – The 4th seeded Hungarian-Kazakh duo led with a set and a break, but after that, the Russians played better and better.

“I think that this Garros happened, as it happened. Would it be better, but I should not be insatiable. There have been matches where I played very well, it was a match in which less. But obviously I need to stay positive! And it was a very positive clay court season, especially compared to previous years. If you only look at the points and this year I won more matches than I lost. It is also positive”– said Timi.


The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes.


At the beginning of the first 39-minute opening act the the Hungarian-Kazakh pair had a break advantage after 1:1, they broke the opponent to 0. However, in the next game they lost that lead. At 3:2, the Russian duo had two break points, but without success (3:3).


At the end of the first set, Timi and Shvedova broke the opponent to 40, and after 5:4 they hold their service game to 30.


The 52-minute second act has brought an even greater battle. At the first period, both pair served well, but after 3:3 the Hungarian-Kazakh duo won the Russians service game. But Gasparyan and Kuznetsova came back immediately to 4:4.


After 4:4 the Russian pair saved a total of 3 break points and it later prove to be decisive.


In the tie-break, Gasparyan and Kuznetsova led with two breaks (3-0). Timi and Shvedova came back to 3-2, but at 5-4 they lost their serve again. And the opponent finished the set behind their serve…


In the opening game of the third set, Timi immediately lost her service game. And the Russians hold that lead for a long time. But at 5:4, the 4th seeds came back with a break, and had the control. At 15-15 came a rain and an one hour interval. After that, Gasparyan and Kuznetsova broke the opponent in a great battle, and few minutes later they advanced to the quarter-final.


The Hungarian player finished her appearance at the Roland Garros. After a two week break, she will continue the season at Birmingham, on grass.
