Roland Garros 2013: Chinese opponents in doubles

26/05/2013 – Timi and Mandy Minella will meet Zhang Shuai and Zheng Jie. The Chinese duo is 13th seed at the Roland Garros.

Timi is 45th, her partner is ranked 53rd. The Hungarian-Luxembourgish duo played in the final in January in Hobart, Australia. Then in February they won in Bogota (Colombia) and in April in Marrakech (Morocco). So they are in the 16th position in this year’s Doubles Race.


Zhang is 38th and Zheng is 20th ranked.


The 24-year-old Zhang on April 1 was this year, the 29th, this is her career best so far. She was finalist in five doubles WTA tournaments: in 2011 she won in Osaka with Kimiko Date-Krumm (Japan), in 2012 she celebrated with Chuang Chia-Jung (Taipei) in Estoril and with Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn in Guangzhou of China.
This season she achieved the best result in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she was finalist with Janette Husarova of Slovakia. With her current partner she started in Madrid and Rome, but failed in the first round.


The 29-year-old Zheng was 3rd ranked in 06.06.2006. That season she won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, she was semifinalist in Roland Garros. She won 14 WTA titles in doubles, most recently in 2011 in Rome she celebrated with the Chinese Peng Shuai. In the 2013 season she was quarter-finalist in the Australian Open, in Doha and Indian Wells with the Spanish Nuria Llagostera Vives. The duo reached the last four in Dubai.


In Brussels Zheng and India’s Sania Mirza also reached the semifinal.
