Quebec: Belgian success in singles

17/09/2017 – Van Uytvanck came back from a set down in the final.

The final lasted 2 hours 7 minutes in Quebec City.


Timi played her second final in singles in 2017 and the fifth final of her career. Every time the trophy was fired in a tight match, this time she had a good chance for the ultimate success for a long time.


In the 49-minute first set, Timi served very well till 4:4, lost only few rallies. Then she hold her service game from 30-40, and Van Uytvanck did the same in the next game. The Hungarian player won the next serve to 0, then led 40-15 as a receiver. She had a total of four set points and she lived with the fourth opportunity.


The 50 minute second act was close and exciting, too. Unfortunately, in the end, the Belgian player was delighted. Though Timi had a total of six break point after 1:0, she could not make one of them. This proved to be decisive later …


Van Uytvanck, who had been unable to put a pressure as a receiver for a long time, broke her opponent to 0 after 2:2. Timi won her next two service games, but had no chance to equalize. In the sixth game she won two rallies, but only after 40-0.


At 5:4, Van Uytvanck won her service game to 15, so came the final set.


The third set was one-sided. Timi immediately lost her serve to 15, then to 30, after 0:2. The Belgian player led 4:0, when her opponent won a game from a break point. Van Uytvanck, however, won the next game in a great battle to 40, which with virtually finished the final. In the last game, the Belgian player broke Timi to 0, so she celebrated her first title at the WTA Tour.
