Pretoria: success in the Doubles QF

07/04/2022 – The tight first set was followed by a smooth second act.


Tímea Babos, Valeria Savinykh (Hungarian, Russian, 2)-Mana Ayukawa, Adrienn Nagy  (Japanese, Hungarian) 7:5, 6:1


The match lasted 1 hour and 9 minutes in Pretoria.


The 34-minute first set was extremely fluctuating, with both doubles having successful and less productive periods. The Hungarian-Russian pair pulled to 3:0 by winning their opponent’s serve to 40 and then to 15. It was soon 3:3, Ayukawa and Nagy took Timi’s and her partner’s serve to 30 and to 15, respectively.


The 2nd seeds then led to 5:3, but few minutes later it was 5:5. After 5:4, the Hungarian-Russian pair lost their serve from 40-30. Another break finally proved decisive, after 6:5 Timi and Valeria Savinykh won the next game to 15.


The second set was one-sided. Timi and her partner served very well, breaking the opponent to 40, to 30 and finally to 0.


In the semifinal the 2nd seeds will meet a pair from the USA, Anna Sinclair Rogers (WTA Doubles Rankings: 304) and Christina Rosca (296).
