The match lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes in the Russian capital.

 

At the start of 36-minute first set, the Ukrainian-Romanian pair saved 2, while Timi and Kiki Mladenovic saved one breakpoint. Then the 1st seeds pulled to a 4:2 lead, breaking the opponents to 30 and to 15. Meanwhile, they lost their own game to 15.

 

Timi and her French partner broke to 30 after 5:3, closing the opening act.

 

The second set was even more exciting!

 

The 1st seeds broke to 40 after 4:3, but then lost their serve to 15. Later, Kichenok and Olaru saved two match point in twelwth game.

 

At the beginning of the tie-break, the Ukrainian-Romanian led 3-0, and at 6-5 they got a set ball. This was countered by Timi and Kristina Mladenovic, and then saved two more set points.

 

Then, at 8-8, the Hungarian-French double won their serve and then finished the QF with a receiving point.

 

Timi and Kiki Mladenovic will meet in the semifinal the 3rd seeded Kirsten Flipkens and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

 

The Belgian player (born: 10 January, 1986) is 25th in the World Rankings and has a career best position of 23rd (1 July, 2019). Flipkens has so far won 5 WTA Tour and 2 ITF events in doubles. This year she reach the QF at Roland Garros.

 

The American player (born: 23 March, 1985) is 27th in the World Rankings, with a career best position of 1st (9 January, 2017). Mattek-Sands has won 27 WTA Tour and 3 ITF competitions so far. She was a champion at the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2015, at the US Open in 2016 and again at the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2017, always on the side of Lucie Šafářová.
