In the opening game of the 36-minute first act, Flipkens and Mattek-Sands saved their serve from 30-40 and then broke to 30. The 1st seeds improved from 0:3, winning their serve to 40 in the sixth game, and then broke the opponents to 40.
It soon became 4:4, but after that the Belgian-American double lost only one ball in the next two games.
In the second set, Flipkens and Mattek-Sands also led 4:1, breaking to 40 after 2:1. Timi and Kristina Mladenovic won their opponents’ serve after 2:4 again, and the result was soon 4:4 and 5:5.
In the end, the Belgian-American duo rescued their serve from 30-40, then broke it to 30. So Flipkens and Mattek-Sands qualified for the Moscow final.
