29/03/2016 – Timi led with a break twice in the final set, but this year’s Australian Open Champion won the match in 2 hour and 11 minutes.

Angelique Kerber (German, 3)-Timea Babos (Hungarian) 6:2, 3:6, 6:4

“It was a great match, I had a chance for the victory! But obviously it’s not easy to finish a match against the world No. 3… She also struggled as she could and in the end she was the winner. I’m a little angry, but happy too. It was a fantastic experience to play at the Center Court! I hope that I could win today in doubles”– said Timi.

“Timea was playing very well! I started the match good and I played a good first set but she came back stronger.  I was trying to fight until the last point; I was down in the third set and I was just believing in myself that I could turn it around.  I won it and to be in the next round is just a great feeling – after midnight, but it’s good to be still in the tournament.”

The World No3 Angelique Kerber began the match with a very stabile performance. The Polish-German star broke her opponent twice and jumped to a 4:1 lead. Then Timi suddenly won her opponent’s service game, but she immediately lost her own serve again.

And after 5:2, Kerber easily finished the opening act.

But after the 31-minute first set, the picture of the match changed! Timi broke Kerber at the beginning of the second act, and led 3:0. The Hungarian youngster played very well and fought bravely!

Unfortunately, after 4:2 Kerber saved her opponent’s game point twice, then she broke her rival. But, she couldn’t broke Timi!

The Hungarian youngster won again Kerber’s service game, then she finished the set after 5:3, with a great battle.

In the third set, Timi twice led with a break. And she had a chance to 4:1, with a double break. But Kerber came back strongly and equalized to 3:3.

At the end of the match, the World No3 won her service games easily. And she broke Timi after 5:4, to 30. So, she closed the interesting meeting.

On Tuesday, Timi will play in doubles with Yaroslava Shvedova. The opponent will be Casey Dellacqua and Samantha Stosur.
