Miami 2014: defeat in doubles

22/03/2014 – Timi and Jelena Jankovic lost in two sets against Medina Garrigues and Shvedova in the first round of the doubles event at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami.

The match lasted 65 minutes.

The Spanish and Kazakh player equally has won two Grand Slam women’s doubles competition, moreover, few weeks ago they triumphed in Florianapolis. Meanwhile Timi and Jelena Jankovic played only one match with each other…

 

The much more routine Spanish-Kazakh duo began with a break the  30-minute first set, they won the rival’s service game to 40. At 2:0 Timi and Jankovic saved a break point, but could not afford more than that.

 

Medina Garrigues and Svedova broke to 30 at 3:1, and at 5:1 they ha a set point. The Hungarian-Serbian duo saved it, but in the next game they had no chance for a break. The Spanish-Kazakh duo won the eight game to 30, lived with the third set point.

 

At the beginning of the second set, at 1:0 the Hungarian-Serbian duo had two break point, but they couldn’t lived with hem. And in the next game Medina Garrigues and Shvedova broke again, this proved to be decisive. The Spanish -Kazakh duo has not given the chance to translate, they saved a break point at 3:2. Then they broke the rival again to 40 (5:2), and didn’t lost a point in the last game…

 

Next time Timi will play at the 500 000 USD Abierto Monterrey at Mexico. The Hungarian youngster won the singles event (by then 220 000 USD) two years ago, and the doubles event (235 000 USD) with Kimiko Date-Krumm in 2013. This year Timi’s partner will be Olga Govortsova. The 25-year-old Belarusian tennis player currently 62nd in doubles , but she was already 24th (08.29.2011). Govortsova won 8 WTA events in doubles. Last year the Hungarian-Belarus duo reached the quarterfinal at 500 000 USD Guangzhou Open.
