Lyon: big match and victory in Round 1

01/03/2021 – Timi served very well and broke twice in the final set.

The match lasted 2 hour and 21 minutes in Lyon.


In the 50-minute first set, the Hungarian player won her opponent’s serve after 3:3, and then immediately lost her own. This did not bother Timi, after 4:4 she broke Gracheva who led 40-0.


Then came a marathon game with full of twists and turns. Graceva pulled away as a receiver for 40-15 and then had 3 more breakballs. Timi equalized each time and then took advantage of her second set ball.


In the 50-minute second act, Gracheva won her opponent’s serve twice, to which there was only one answer. The Russian player did not lose a rally after 6:5 as a receiver.


Then came the change in the final set! Timi won her serve in the second game from a betting advantage and then broke to 15 after 3:3. And then she didn’t give Gracheva a chance. The Hungarian player won the following service games to 0 and 15. Then after 5:3, Timi got 3 match balls (0-40) as a receiver, taking advantage of the second chance.


The Hungarian player’s next opponent will be Clara Tauson, who won 6: 3, 6:4 against Ekaterina Alexandrova, who was ranked 1st.


The Danish player (born: 21  December, 2002) is 139th in the World Rankings, a career peak. She has won 8 ITFs so far, won the Australian Open among juniors in 2019 and was ranked No. 1.
