Last year’s finalist won in three sets in Bogota

10/04/2019 –  Arruabarrena came back from a set down.

Lara Arruabarrena (Spanish)-Tímea Babos (Hungarian) 6:7 (7-9), 6:4, 6:1

The match lasted 2 hours 15 minutes in Bogota.

The 65-minute first set split into two parts, as at Timi’s 4:1 lead came a long pause. The 25-year old Hungarian player was effectively served, and in the second game she won the opponent’s game in a big battle. Breaking her to 40, she used the third chance. Timi then saved a break point, and soon came the forced break.

After a wait, the service games were in constant danger. Arruabarrena won her opponent’s serves twice, but lost own game after 4:3. Then from 5:5 both player hold their own game, so the tie-break came.

At the beginning of the tie-break, Timi lost her serve two times, and then turned from 1-4 to 6-4. Then Arruabarrena won three rallies in a row, twice as a receiver. So she got to the set ball. Timi then broke twice and after that, closed the opening act behind her serve.

Unfortunately, the 45-minute second set brought a turn. The Spanish player won two very tight receiving games, second time from her opponent’s 40-15 advantage … Timi didn’t give up, took back both of them, came to 5:4. But then she couldn’t bring her own game, and that was the key.

In the final set, Arruabarrena was extremely efficient behind her serves. And she won Timi’s game twice. And this time, there was no return from 5:1…Last year finalist won the last game to 15.

According to the plans, Timi will play int he qualies next week in Istanbul at the 250 000 WTA Tour event on clay.
