Hungarian GP: Timi lost against Halep…

12/07/2013 – No surprise in Budapest, the third seed Simona Halep won in two sets against Timi in the quarter-final of the 235 000 USD Hungarian Grand Prix.

The meeting lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

“In the first set I played extremely well, except of the serve. My basic shots were good, this is encouraging. Unfortunately I made silly mistakes at set points, which costs the set and the match. Unfortunately, the first the matches taken out of me a lot. Physically and mentally I was tired. But the quarterfinal is a better result, than I expected before the tournament. Now there were signs of my better tennis. This is encouraging for the future. The key is to push the high level of my game for a longer period. My tennis was better than in previous weeks, but this can be much better. “– Timi said.


The 21-year-old Romanian singles players this year won two tournaments, while Timi remained winless weeks before the Hungarian Grand Prix. Halep was 30th, while the young Hungarian 115th ranked player before the tournament, so the Romanian was the clear favourite.


In the first game of the quarter-final Halep immediately took Timi’s serve, but then came the pleasant turn of events. The domestic player broke to 0, and again won the opponent’s serve 3:2. Timi played accurate tennis, sometimes hit unexpected shots, she tried almost everything, mostly successfully.


Unfortunately Halep came back after 4:2, again took Timi’s serve to 40 … But the 20 year old Hungarian tennis player but still does not collapse, at 5:4 she had a total of four set balls, but she could not take advantage of them. Halep lived with the psychological advantage, broke again after 5:5 and won her service game to 15. It closed the 54-minute first set.


The sequel was much smoother. Timi had already deteriorated a lot, Halep was already very accurate. The Hungarian player broke back after 1:0, but later she had no chance to cause a big upset.
